Mission Sontag

This photo was taken while in Roatan waiting for a massage.  As we walked around, the parrot started flirting and I took the picture of Joe filming the bird.  I really appreciate that you can see a view of the bird in the viewfinder of the video camera, while also in my picture.  I do believe that I will remember this picture in the future.

This is a picture of my biological siblings, when we first reconnected after about 20+ years.  The photographer of this was my sister-in-law who was also there.  This will always be a strong photograph for me personally.
This is a picture of a janitor that won millions and is giving back to the school where he works.  Not sure of the photographer, but the story was eye catching for the picture.  I'm sure this was just a photo to him.  Will this be remembered in the future?  Probably not, but it was news-worthy today :)

Nature in Cardboard

We were required to pick a natural item, and recreate it from cardboard.  I picked the top of an acorn because I liked the features created.  I would like to see if I can create it as a vase that might be used later.

Here's the original idea I scribbled to begin my thought process.
Trying to create a flat base and work my way up from that.  I made a small version to see how it would work, but it didn't stay together.  Now need to take a different direction, and see what we can do to make it become what I want.

Human Dot Photos

The assignment was to create a dot picture using the people of my group.

Newpaper and Wood Glue

First day of class we were told to create a project that would support a cinder block, and make it as tall as possible.  The challenge was that we could only use a small stack of newspapers and wood glue.

My first thought was to make long narrow strips to try and make it taller, so I started folding the sheets into 2" widths.  As I was folding I realized that it probably wouldn't be sturdy enough, so the thought of create a wicker pattern would produce more strength.  I continued the 2" strips and made enough to create the wicker pattern.

I also glued a base for the top using the more sturdy advertising pages, to put the block on top.  As I began assembling the project, I realized that it still wasn't going to be sturdy enough (only had 10 minutes left).  I completed the assembly, set it aside to dry/harden.

Once we began testing the projects, a classmate recommended that I should have stuffed more paper inside the cylinder to add more support.  Wished I had thought of that earlier :)  It definitely needs more central support, as you can tell in the picture.
